On Sunday, December 2nd, the Okaloosa Chamber Singers kicked off the holiday season with an afternoon concert sponsored by the Florida Chautauqua, Inc.  The sanctuary of  the First United Methodist Church located on Circle Drive in DeFuniak Springs,  resounded with the voices of the select choir members and their musical accompanists.  This year’s concert attendees had the added pleasure of enjoying the addition of a string ensemble, oboes, cellos and English horns. Traditional Christmas carols, as well as a selection of classical pieces, appealed to a broad and varied audience of approximately 200 people.  Following the concert, participants and guests were treated to a reception on the porch where a traditional holiday fare was served which included dessert items.   Recipes for many of the sweets and treats appear in the newly released Florida Chautauqua Cookery cookbook.  Some guests proceeded on to enjoy the lights of Christmas Reflections surrounding our beautiful lake.  This event has become a holiday tradition for many families and is a much anticipated event in our hometown.

The Florida Chautauqua, Inc., Board of Directors is happy to announce the arrival of Florida Chautauqua Cookery, containing 500 fabulous recipes from citizens of DeFuniak Springs and Walton County.

It is a hard back, 3 ring-binder filled with pictures of the rich heritage of The Florida Chautauqua here in DeFuniak Springs. We have included factual information and photos along with the 500 fabulous recipes, delicious and sure to please. Don’t miss your chance to own one or MORE! They will make wonderful gifts for Christmas and other occasions. The price of each cookbook is $21.95 (sales tax has been included).Cookbooks may be purchased and picked up at our office (848 Baldwin Ave.) If picking up your cookbook checks may be made payable to:  FL Chautauqua.  Please call in advance (892-9494) to be certain someone is in the office.  Special pickup times have been set from 10-2 PM and 4-5:30 PM on Wednesday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 7th.  In addition, the following merchants have volunteered to help distribute the cookbooks for us during their normal business hours:  Fisher’s Pharmacy, McLean’s Florist and Shear Pleasures.  Please note that cookbooks at our merchant locations are purchased with CASH or CHECK only!  Cookbooks are also available for purchase by using the PayPal payment links below at the bottom of this page with pickup at the office.

Please remember that the profits from this cookbook will enable our organization, a 501 c3 non-profit, to continue operating the Florida Chautauqua Theatre and provide a variety of other artistic programs in our schools and community.

 

The Florida Chautauqua Inc., and the Downtown Business and Professional Association (DBPA) will celebrate Halloween and the autumn season  with creative “pumpkin-head” displays. The Halloween and “pumpkin patch people” will be on display throughout the fall season in windows and sidewalk decor through-out the downtown business district of DeFuniak Springs.  We will have our “pumpkin person” on display in the lobby of our theatre. Come enjoy the shopping and dinning experiences our small town offers in October and November (and throughout the year) along with the excitement of Chautauqua’s own production of Hansel and Gretel, November 16th-18th! We are a small town doing great things!
